About

Michael Crowe

Hello! I’m a writer, reporter and multimedia producer based in Seattle, Washington. I love telling stories about science, the environment, wild places and climate change. It’s even better when those stories let me meet interesting people, too.

My work has been featured in High Country News, Civil Eats, and Sierra Magazine, among others.

Reporting has taken me all over the country. I spent weeks in Texas during and after Hurricane Harvey, have covered a Rose Bowl, and even hauled my camera to a peak in the Smokies after historic wildfires.

Over a decade in television that included stops at KING 5 in Seattle, WBIR 10News Knoxville and KWWL TV in Waterloo, Iowa, I have exposed issues of deadly pollution, noise encroaching on protected spaces, and reported extensively on COVID-19 and the disparate impacts on those with disabilities. I’ve also investigated systemic healthcare pitfalls, dangerous airbag recalls, negligent companies, fire danger to communities, and the (many) human impacts to our national parks.

My work has been recognized by several journalism organizations. I’ve been honored with 10 Emmys, numerous NPPA Best of Photojournalism and Quarterly Clip awards, Associated Press awards, and an Edward R. Murrow for Excellence in Sound.

I’m always looking for the next great storytelling opportunity, whether its from behind my desk, or far afield. Either way, I want to help people better understand our relationship with the world around us.

In my free time, find me hiking or skiing, usually with a camera in tow.

I’m available for writing, editing, fact-checking, video production, and podcast editing. Let’s work together!
